The Assistant

Zoe, the campaign Assistant, helps you set up a campaign by talking it through, keeps your answers in the campaign as you go, and can change your audiences when you ask.

What it is

Every campaign has an Assistant tab. On the left is a conversation with Zoe, who asks about your offer, who you want to reach and how you want to come across, and turns your answers into the campaign's brief. On the right is a short summary of the campaign's settings, with a link to the Configuration tab when you want to change them yourself.

Zoe can also answer questions about how Handshake works, and change a campaign's audiences when you ask her to.

Why it exists

A good campaign starts with a clear brief, and filling in a long form is hard work. Talking it through is quicker, and Zoe asks the follow-up questions that make a brief specific. Asking her for a change also saves you finding the right setting on the right page.

Who can see it

Anyone who can open a campaign can use its Assistant. Whoever is talking to Zoe, the answers go into the same campaign brief, so everyone works on one campaign.

Changes to audiences follow the same permissions as the audience page: If you could not make the change there yourself, Zoe tells you it did not go through.

How it works

Building the brief

Zoe works through the campaign one topic at a time, starting with what you offer and who it is for. Your answers are saved to the campaign as you go, so you can stop and come back at any time. If something you said seems to be missing, check the campaign's Configuration tab. To change an earlier answer, just tell her. Once the essentials are in place, she says so, and you can keep refining whenever you like.

Asking for a change to an audience

Ask in your own words, naming the audience. For example: "For the investors audience, target partners at venture firms in London." Zoe can:

  • Change an audience's brief: who it targets, its industries or locations, and how you want to approach them.
  • Re-qualify the contacts already in an audience against its current brief.
  • Rebuild an audience with a new search, to add people who match the brief.

Zoe tells you she will take care of it, and confirms only once Handshake has made the change. If a change does not go through, she tells you why.

When a change affects who you target

If you change who an audience targets and it already holds contacts, Zoe explains your choices: Re-qualify the contacts you have, rebuild with a new search, or wait until you have finished making changes. Nothing is re-qualified or rebuilt until you choose it. See When the brief changes.

Questions about Handshake

Ask Zoe how something works, what a setting does or what we recommend. She answers from this guide, so what she tells you matches what you read here. If the guide does not cover your question, she says she is not sure rather than guessing.

Limits and what to watch out for

  • Zoe works inside your campaign. She sets it up, changes its audiences when you ask, and answers questions. Booking calls, payments and email happen elsewhere in Handshake.
  • Name the audience when a campaign has more than one, so Zoe changes the right one. If she cannot tell which you mean, she asks.
  • A rebuild uses the seat's daily profile downloads, like any other search.
  • Re-qualifying is free, with a daily safety limit per audience that normal use never reaches. See Audiences.
  • Some settings are still changed by you, not by Zoe: For example Send without a note on the Configuration tab, and Autopilot in the Outreach Hub. Zoe tells you where to find them.
